HENRY LEE LUCAS

The Henry Lee Lucas saga began in August 1983 when police in Texas, investigating a murder, picked up an unidentified man they called “Bill.” Bill denied knowing anything about the crime and refused to give his real name. But he did provide some background information, including the names of two accomplices: Henry Lee Lucas and Otis Blackburn. When police later picked up Blackburn, he too denied any knowledge of the crime, but he did provide his real name. When Henry Lee Lucas was first arrested, he denied the murders he’d committed. He said he’d confessed only to get a warm cell, food, and a break from the relentless beatings and interrogations. He said he’d been framed by police and their informants. He said he was, in fact, innocent. But when police searched his home and found the skull of a woman, along with other evidence, he finally stopped denying the murders and started confessing. Over the course of several interviews, he told an incredible story of murder and mayhem. He said he’d killed over 100 people, almost all of them women, in at least seven different states. He said he’d used a variety of weapons, including guns, knives, and his bare hands.
